I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Louie, PalmettoPride's mascot, for a little one-on-one time. We had an interesting conversation that I would like to share with you.
Me: Good morning Louie.
Louie: ROOOOOOOOAAAAAAAR!
*Blogger's Note: My apologies. I forgot to turn on Babel Fish. Thank you to Yahoo! Babel Fish for translating Lion to English or this post would never be possible.
Me: Good morning Louie.
Louie: Good Morning, it's nice to be here.
Me: I should really say good afternoon as you are a late sleeper.
Louie: Yeah, well you know I had a long night last night. I was out monitoring the state's litter problem. All part of the job.
Me: So you take your job seriously?
Louie: I AM the King of cleanup.
Me: Point taken. So tell me, Who is Louie, really? Tell me a bit about yourself.
Louie: Well, I'm a Leo, I like the colors blue and green, I like the book Brother Eagle, Sister Sky, my favorite song is Alice's Restaurant, and unlike other lions I'm actually a vegetarian.
Me: Wow. That's a lot to take in, but really? A vegetarian?
Louie: I recently gave up meat. You'd be amazed at the power of soy.
Me: I thought that was cheese.
Louie: That too.
Me: Anyway, how about you tell me what it is you do for PalmettoPride.
Louie: Well, because I am their mascot, I travel around the state to various schools, festivals and other educational events to raise awareness about litter in South Carolina. Sometimes I travel with the Litter Trashes Everyone puppet show, or I go along with Miss South Carolina when she speaks to students at schools.
Me: It sounds like you stay pretty busy.
Louie: I do. It's good to be King.
Me: What message do you spread when you visit schools and festivals?
Louie: I generally don't do much talking. I leave that to Miss South Carolina or the wonderful folks over at The Columbia Marionette theater. The message they like to portray, is that littering is harmful to the environment and that it is everyones responsibility to help keep South Carolina beautiful.
Me: Sounds good. Anything you're looking forward to in the future.
Louie: I look forward to a day when I don't travel down our highways and see people flicking out their cigarette butts or throwing out their trash. Oh, and March Madness. I'm great with the brackets.
Me:Well I suppose that is just about it.
Louie: You sure there isn't anything else?
Me: Can I wear your crown?
Louie: I don't think that's a good idea.
Me: Good morning Louie.
Louie: ROOOOOOOOAAAAAAAR!
